Our Forest School Ethos at Crich Church of England Infant School

Forest School is a unique educational experience and process that offers the children the opportunity to succeed and develop confidence and reliance through a hands-on learning experiences in the woodland environment.

At Forest School each child is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. To enable this, we will provide the highest standard of teaching and learning to enable all children to achieve and maintain their fullest potential in all areas of their development.

During our Forest School sessions, we create an environment where the children feel safe, motivated, and supported thus leading to children who enjoy learning, show respect to each other, the community and environment. Children are engaged in motivating and achievable tasks throughout the year in all weathers, building stamina and resilience and an appreciation for the nature that surrounds them.

Forest School at Crich Church of England Infant School aims to provide holistic learner led sessions in the beautiful, local Derbyshire woodland. Our sessions in the woodland offer the children the opportunity to use and explore a variety of tools, play with peers, and learn boundaries both physically and socially. There is also the opportunity for our children to experience managed risk and make their own decisions, therefore building on the children’s own risk assessment skills and confidence.

With the Derbyshire countryside on our doorstep it allows the children the opportunity to experience what is available in their local vicinity and build on their appreciation, and respect for the nature that surrounds them.
