Literacy and Phonics

Little Wandle Letters and Sounds (Reception and Year 1)
Little Wandle Spelling (Year 2)
Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised is a systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) program for Reception and Year 1 children, designed to help them learn to read letters, blend sounds, and decode words effectively. It is widely used in schools across the UK and supported by the Department for Education.
Little Wandle Spelling is designed to bridge the gap between phonics and formal spelling instruction in Year 2. It helps children consolidate their understanding of the alphabetic code and develop confidence in spelling new words. The program emphasizes phonics as the primary approach, whilst also introducing etymology, morphology, and grammar to support accurate spelling of more complex words.
What's For Lunch?
All our menus are created using the School Food Standards as set out by the government and adhere to strict nutritional guidelines so you can be assured that your child is receiving a high quality meal.
Derbyshire County Council catering team provide our school meals and their menus are on a 3-week cycle which changes every 6 months. New dishes and recipes are trialled by our school catering staff and children before they are added to the new menu. This ensures that children are receiving a variety of meals that reflect the food served at home. Our pupils love our wholesome home cooked meals. They exceed current Government Standards and hold the quality mark "Food for Life Served Here".

We want our pupils to enjoy all the good stuff; vegetables, fresh fruit and drinking water are available freely every day.

Pupil premium funding

Pupil premium funding is additional funding for schools to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in England.
Pupil premium is not a personal budget allocated to individual eligible pupils. It is funding awarded to schools based on the number of eligible pupils on roll.
It is at the discretion of the school leaders to determine how best to spend the pupil premium within the requirements of the conditions set by the government.
The link between free school meals and pupil premium funding

All infant pupils are entitled to free school meals. However, it's still important that schools know which infant pupils meet the benefit criteria for free school meals.
This is because the school receives pupil premium and formula funding based on the number of pupils that are eligible for free school meals.
